Having visited once before, I surprised my husband for his birthday and booked it again during our Tennessee and Alabama Airbnb road trip. We loved it so much the first time, that I knew we’d be back to visit again!

This very unique treehouse is nestled in the pines of a 40 acre property in Crane Hill, Alabama. The closest known landmark, Lewis Smith Lake, covers over 21,000 acres in Cullman, Walker, and Winston Counties. The maximum depth at the dam is 264 feet. It is the deepest lake in Alabama, and so beautiful in the summer time!

This treehouse Airbnb is located 2.5 hours from Nashville or 1 hour from Birmingham. I do recommend stopping for groceries on the way to the treehouse as you won’t want to leave once you are there!

Unique Features at the Firefly Treehouse in Crane Hill, AL

Upon arrival, you will notice the absolute serenity that this place is. In my opinion, it is the best designed Airbnb treehouse on the map. The exterior features all natural wood elements, a campfire for two, a grill, pond access, peddle bikes, and the best amenity – outdoor showers. Showering in the beauty of the forest is truly an experience unlike any other. It is peaceful, rejuvenating, and honestly refreshing in the southern summers. I don’t know how it could get more romantic than this.

Romantic Treehouse Airbnb for a Couples Getaway

The interior of this romantic treehouse is unlike anything you have ever seen before. It’s cozy, relaxing and was designed with intention and purpose to bring couple’s together again. Watch the stars, or firefly’s, with an antique telescope. Enjoy a glass of wine in the soaking tub. Challenge your partner to an epic game of Monopoly. And lastly, spend quality time away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world as you de-stress in this atmosphere.

Our Experience at the Firefly Treehouse

A typical day for us at the treehouse looked like this: no alarm, wake to the sound of nature, and enjoy a cup of coffee and breakfast across the swinging bridge. Next, read on the hammock bed before taking shower number one of the day. We would then go for a nature walk and fish at the pond. For lunch, we would make a delicious meal on the grill. Usually a nap in the air conditioned treehouse before spending the afternoon playing games, journaling, reading and relaxing. By afternoon we would take another rejuvenating outdoor shower. In the evening, we would play cards, roast marshmallows and spend endless hours dreaming up how we can build a treehouse at home.

First, adventure lovers who enjoy unique stays in nature. Second, couples looking for a romantic getaway. And lastly, this would also be a great spot for solo travelers seeking peace and quiet.

When is the best time to visit the Firefly treehouse?

I personally would recommend staying here May – October. Our first visit here was in July, and our second visit here was in August. I would love to book a weekend here in fall, however you must book far in advance for those dates (over 1 year out). With the summer months, you can enjoy all of the outdoor activities, but be aware of those hot and humid days. I think fall would be perfect as the colors change and crisp nights make for some epic campfires.

What to pack when staying here?

Honestly, you will not need much. Comfort clothes, swimsuit, a good book and food/drinks. Like I noted early, stop by a local grocery store on the way to stock up so you won’t have to leave. In the event you do forget something, there is a local Dollar Tree less than 10 minutes away! I also recommend bringing a bag of ice to keep your drinks cold. There is a mini fridge and cooler to keep food stored. I also recommend bringing a small portable fan, this will help you to stay cool is nice to have at night.
